Barley news World: Barley trade forecast raised to 25.71 mln tonnes in USDA’s November report

World total barley trade forecast for 2017/18 is up in USDA’s November report. The analysts now expect global barley shipments to amount to 25.71 mln tonnes versus 25.21 mln forecast last month and 29.545 mln tonnes forecast for 2016/17.

For 2017/18, Russia barley export forecast is boosted 300,000 tonnes to 4.8 million on expectations of supporting higher global demand for feedstuffs. Canada’s barley export forecast is up 200 thousand tonnes to 1.5 mln tonnes.

China barley import forecast for the current marketing year is chased up another 1.0 million tonnes to 6.5 million on expectations of higher demand for feedstuffs. Imports for 2016/17 are boosted 500,000 tonnes to 8.1 million. Saudi Arabia barley import forecast for 2017/18 is cut 500,000 tonnes to 8.5 million on forecast higher consumption of compound feed. Imports for 2016/17 are slashed 1 million tonnes to 9.5 million.

For 2016/17, Australia barley export forecast is lowered 300,000 tonnes to 9.2 million.

World barley production is expected to reach 141.66 mln tonnes in 2017/18, down from last month’s forecast of 142.001 mln tonnes (147.131 mln tonnes – in 2016/17). Total barley consumption is seen at 147.139 mln tonnes (147.382 mln last month, 149.236 – in 2016/17) and ending stocks at 18.849 mln tonnes (19.01 and 24.328 mln tonnes, respectively).
